alder guitar wood
Alder is great guitar wood, it has been used by almost every guitar company; the wood itself is very uniform. It has some lovely
markings and makes great 2 piece and one piece guitars, if the body is not to be painted. Most painted Fenders are Alder.
Alder is a relatively light weight wood, giving excellent response to tonal dynamics.

basswood guitar body uk replacement jem
Basswood is a very plain looking wood, it's almost white and has no real defining patterns and in my opinion is best painted as it
can dent very easily. Generally speaking a light weight wood but can vary plenty from moderately heavy to super light in weight. Super light Basswood
is VERY airy and so IMO should be painted ONLY as the lighter it gets the more the wood is more air than wood.
It was used a lot by Ibanez in their RG/Jem and Universe guitar range. It features very good sustain extending all the way to
the higher end of the fretboard.

guitar body
Utile and Sapele are often mistaken as they share many characteristics, their grain patterns can look almost identical in some instances when
dealing with the less decorative varieties on the rare occasion they stump me by eye you can smell the difference.
Tonally they react similarly, some may argue this point but both woods are used as substitutes for
the crazy expensive South American Mahogany. Utile can have amazing figure and stunningly smooth lines running through it like dark brown pencil lines.
Utile comes from west and East Africa (same as Sapele) it's colors run from pink-brown when fresh cut to deep red-brown.

limba guitar body
White Limba can look very different from one tree to the next, it can be very plain in color, which is a soft white yellow or it can
be covered in darker black striations like on the left which can look stunning, again it's weight can vary considerably from
tree to tree. It was used very recently by Ibanez for their Paul Gilbert Fireman model guitars.

maple guitar body
Maple is a very hard and heavy wood, it can have some beautiful grain in it. It's a very creamy white to slightly orange white color in
heavy grained sections. Tonal qualities are broad ranging detailed treble, nice warm midrange and solid Bass, maple has a
very aggressive quality.

sapele guitar body replacement
Sapele is a brilliant wood used by lots of big guitar companies and sold as Mahogany, as it is due to it being a rather ubiquitous tree
from Africa as apposed to trees from the Brazilian rain forest it is considerably cheaper, if the situation was reversed guess what?
Brazilian mahogany would be cheap and Sapele would be big money, it is nothing to do with the wood itself as Sapele is a
great wood, it's pretty heavy and can look plain with straight lines running like ruler lines or it can be amazingly colored and
running in all directions, ranging from a sweet medium brown to rich red and dark black.
It has a great tone rich and bright, giving great attack.

poplar guitar body uk
Poplar is a great guitar wood, people talk it down due to it being reasonable cheap as it readily available, just because a wood
is abundant it shouldn't make it a lesser wood but in so folks opinions if it's cheaper it's worse, more fool on them.
Pop can be a very pretty wood, having some very nice patternation it also has a very large pallet of colors ranging from a blue
green to yellow green to cream to grey and finally brown, sometime very smooth and sometimes very sever markings.
Pop is light in weight and similar in tonal properties to Alder with a slight more aggressive character.
Used by Music Man in their stingray Bases also Used by Eddie Van Halen on his 5150 Kramer Pacer guitar.

Poplar is best Painted due to it's easy at denting.

Koto is an African derived hardwood. It is a dense stable wood with some great markings (see below examples)
It has a very clean look with its creams and off yellow gold marks interspliced with flecks of grey and small dark browns.
It weighs in at around the same weight as Northern Ash or Sapele Mahogany.
Its tonal characteristics are a cross between Sapele and Alder sharing many of the same qualities of both woods.
Having more mid range and low end chunk.
It was used recently by Fender in there Marauder reissues, but why they painted such great figured wood is anyone guess.
